Rowlett Information
Rowlett is truly a settler's town. Located in the eastern portion of Dallas County and with western parts in Rockwall County, some of Rowlett's rich history still lives within its boundaries. Rowlett was first settled by two immigration companies in the 1840's with a mix of German, French, and American pioneers. The city was first named Morris but was later changed to reflect Rowlett Creek which is a major tributary to the Trinity River. The creek is named after Daniel Rowlett, a prominent military figure and member of the Texas House of Representatives. The location of the Rowlett Creek was important in growing Rowlett with the establishment of vital railways and highways.
In 1971, Lake Ray Hubbard Reservoir was completed to make Rowlett an expansive lakefront community. Local residents and those from surrounding cities, like Sachse, Garland and Rockwall, can be seen enjoying a variety of activities on the lake. They also have a lush golf course with views of the lake and their own family-oriented water park. If you need a break from the water, Rowlett Parks and Recreation department has several options for membership in athletic programs and associations. The community also emphasizes involvement in service projects and has plenty of holiday oriented events. It also offers a variety of secondary educational choices with areas zoned in Rockwall, Garland, and Dallas school districts.
Rowlett is often referred to as a commuter suburb. It's the perfect neighborhood for those who like to work hard and relax after a long week. For the working man or woman, Rowlett is revitalizing itself as a new frontier with increased accessibility to the rest of Dallas. The city's resources are bringing in the DART blue line and the President George Bush Turnpike extension. These new developments will increase economic growth to meet the needs of Rowlett's renters.
