Given the historical past of the area it is not surprising that much of the area is historically correct. The King William District was initially settled by German immigrants that brought plenty of culture, food, and entertainment to the area and that is still very much present today. Throughout the early 1900s more and more settlers began to move into the King William District as well as San Antonio and obviously the city continued to expand rapidly. Thanks to government programs the King William District is now protected as a historic community as well; it was in fact the first historic community district in Texas when it officially gained that title in the 1960s. Ever since then community revival projects and rebuilding projects have kept the city new and alive while still maintaining the old world feel that you would expect from a historic district.
Around the district there are dozens of outdoor shopping centers and open air malls and walkways that give people access to a completely new style of shopping and entertainment that cannot be found elsewhere in the area.
