Pearland, TX is located in the gulf cost region of the state and was named as the 34th fastest growing suburb by Forbes Magazine in 2007. According to the 2000 census, Pearland had a population of just under 40,000. As of 2008, the population was estimated to be approximately 90,000. The major contributing factor to the intense population growth of Pearland is due to the overwhelming amount of residential property zoned in the city. In the early days of the development of the city of Pearland, most of the land was used as farming land to grow local fruits and vegetables. However, the city currently has over eighty percent of its land zoned as residential areas.
Many of the residents of Pearland enjoy recreational facilities and services offered by the Pearland Parks and Recreation dept. Many of the residents also take advantage of the rich agricultural resources of the area. The Pearland Farmers Market is open to the public two days out of each month.
