The history of North Richland Hills began on the foundations of a land grant and an entrepreneur's dream. The first families arrived in 1848 and established the area as a rural and ranching community that maintained itself for more than 100 years. The North Richland Hills Civic League, the town's governing body, elected to be annexed into Richland Hills but was denied in 1953. That same year, 500 people on 268 acres of land voted to incorporate North Richland Hills. As a testament to their community values, the first streets are named after the families that contributed to the city's growth. The next section is named after cars, a true sign of the times.
Since its inception, growth has not been an issue for North Richland Hills. It has succeeded in creating an atmosphere to cater to the lifestyles of growing families. The local government maintains community wide events and resources that include spring concert series, public beautification projects, youth activities, a library, and golf courses among many others. North Richland Hills even has its own full-scale family waterpark, NRH2O, equipped with an array of slides, beaches, and the classic lazy river.
