Midlothian is located at the heart of Ellis County which was established in 1849. Settlers began arriving in 1840 where they lived as hunters and farmers. They were heavily influenced by the local Native American tribes who they learned from and traded with. The incoming railroads gave way to the official incorporation of Midlothian in April of 1888.
