If you get good TV reception in the metroplex, you can likely thank Cedar Hill.
Because of its elevation, 800 feet above sea level, and its location in Southeast Dallas County, many local radio and TV stations have located antennas there. According to Wikipedia, these steel antennas reach several thousand feet into the air and the "blinking lights appear like Christmas trees at night."
It's lucky that radar equipment for tracking tornadoes is also attached to the antennas. In 1856, a tornado swept through the town killing nine people and destroying most of its buildings. The county seat was moved to Dallas shortly thereafter.
Cedar Hill is located along the eastern shore of Joe Pool Lake and Cedar Hill State Park, a favorite weekend destination for outdoor recreation and camping.
Seven of the top ten employers in town are retail establishments, which confirms Cedar Hills's status as a bedroom community. Nearby Uptown Village offers upscale shopping, including Dillard's, Jos. A. Bank, and Georgiou Design Studio.
