Located near the busy intersections of I-20, I-35E, and U.S. Highway 67, DeSoto, Texas, is a central location for industry and business. Nestled among trees and rolling hills of southwestern Dallas County, DeSoto offers small town feel just 12 miles from Dallas. Texas FM 1528 (Belt Line Road) runs east & west through DeSoto, connecting U.S. Hwy 67 to IH-35E. The city's population has grown 26 percent since 2000.
Top employers include the DeSoto ISD, the city of DeSoto, manufacturers DIAB and Solar Turbines, Inc., and a Wal-Mart distribution center. Many are located at the Eagle Industrial Park--McGraw Hill Publishing, ZEP Manufacturing, Kauffman Tire, The Warrior Group, DW Distribution, and Texas Air Manufacturing--near the busy intersection of I-20 and I-35E.
DeSoto ISD is a small, suburban district with twelve campuses serving more than 8,000 students in DeSoto, Glenn Heights, and Ovilla. The District includes the 2009 boys 5A Basketball State Champions, 2007 girls 5A Track & Field State Champions, the and boys 4x400 relay State Champs.
DeSoto Town Center is a mixed-use community with apartments, retail, dining, and offices. The apartments offer black appliances, designer lighting, kitchen islands, vaulted ceilings, cyber cafe with WiFi, coffee bar, and HD TVs. Outside it has a swimming pool and grilling areas.
The area was named after Dr. Thomas Hernando DeSoto Stewart, who was committed to the settlement at the time the first post office opened in 1881. Not surprisingly, DeSoto has several nearby hospitals: Methodist Charlton Medical Center, Hickory Trail Hospital, and Select Specialty Hospital South Dallas.
