The town of Leon Valley is yet another urban city that has resisted being annexed by nearby San Antonio in order to keep control of how the city is run. Leon Valley was originally developed in 1950 and ever since then the town has been growing steadily towards a current population of over 10,000 people. At multiple times during the growth of Leon Valley residents filed petitions and legal proceedings to prevent the city from being annexed by San Antonio and each time the residents of Leon Valley were successful; this is precisely why the city is still independent.
Of course Leon Valley has plenty more to offer as well. The biggest benefit of Leon Valley and other surrounding cities and neighborhoods is the convenience offered. Because San Antonio literally surrounds the small town of Leon Valley it is incredibly easy to find any necessary shopping or necessities you might have. Downtown San Antonio is just a short drive as well which means residents are more than capable of commuting to work, regardless of what part of San Antonio they work in.
Leon Valley also has multiple schools immediately within the small town that serve residents of the city as well as certain other parts of San Antonio. Depending on what portion of Leon Valley residents live in their children may attend any of the 5 elementary schools, some of which are in Leon Valley while others are in San Antonio. There is also a public library located in Leon Valley; it is called the Leon Valley Library and it is open to anyone regardless of where they live.
Overall Leon Valley is a pretty standard urban town; just like most parts of San Antonio there are multiple schools and parks available as well as public libraries and outdoor areas that people are able to enjoy. Leon Valley is in fact independent of San Antonio but due to the way everything flows together it is nearly impossible to actually tell where the city of Leon Valley starts and where San Antonio ends. If you are looking for a small town to live in while still being directly in the heart of San Antonio you should definitely consider moving to Leon Valley; nowhere else offers the quick access and convenience of the city while still being somewhat separated from the main part of San Antonio.
