West End Dallas Information
The West End is an area in the northwest corner of Downtown Dallas, TX. The area is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Dallas as well as a historic Dallas Landmark District. The city of Dallas has gone through great lengths to ensure that the West End maintain its historic significance. In the 1970's, the West End was the first area of the city that was zoned with height limiting restrictions. This was a proactive measure intended to keep developers from buying up real estate and converting it to skyscrapers. As the Dallas skyline began to take form during this time, the West End was also beginning to transform as well. It was during this time that many old warehouse spaces were converted into restaurants and shops. The original Spaghetti Warehouse was opened in the West End and is still one of the biggest draws in the area.
The area is decorated with sidewalk patios and surrounded by large live oak trees. The West End is also the oldest entertainment area in Dallas and home of spectacular events such as the Taste of Dallas. Residents also enjoy special events such as the West End Block Party series and other street festivals that take place every year. The area that was once full of railroad stations and warehouses but now boasts some of the best bars and pubs in the area.
Residents and tourists in the West End can enjoy any number of things. There is live music at several venues in the West End. In fact, the Grammy award-winning group, the Dixie Chicks, got their start on the steps of the Marketplace in the West End. For those looking for more cultural experiences, the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, the Holocaust Museum, and the Old Red Courthouse Museum are just some of the museums in the area. The Dallas Aquarium is the perfect place for a mid-day getaway. And for those residents looking for just a quiet, relaxing evening on the town, perhaps they may enjoy taking the horse-drawn carriage tour around the neighborhood.
