Wylie Information

Looking for apartments in apartments in Wylie, TX?

Situated between Lake Lavon and Lake Ray Hubbard, two of the largest lakes in the metroplex, Wylie often refers to itself as is the "City Between the Lakes." Current estimates put the city population at about 88,000. That's a 100 percent increase growth over the last decade. That's how it ended up on Forbes.com's list of "America's Fastest-Growing Suburbs" in 2007. By 2014, the expected population will be well over 100,000. The majority of its population is aged 25 to 44.

Wylie, 24 miles northeast of metropolitan Dallas in southern Collin County, was one of the first cities in the nation to offer fiber optic lines direct to homes, offering high-speed data transmission for TV, Internet, and telephone service. The city recently broke ground on a new $40 million municipal complex, including a recreation center, a library, and city offices.

The Woodbridge development consists of residential neighborhoods, multifamily developments, and retail surrounding an 18-hole golf club.

The city of Wylie is served by its own Wylie Independent School District (WISD). According to WISD, the UIL Class 5A district covers 41 square miles and serves more than 10,067 students in Wylie, Sachse, Murphy, and St. Paul. Wylie ISD offers an academic program focusing on "character education" beginning in elementary school. The curriculum includes programs from culinary arts to TV production. WISD has opened 11 new campuses since 2000.
