With 57,000 students, Garland ISD is the second largest school district in Dallas County and the thirteenth largest in Texas.
There are not many school districts in the USA that allow open enrollment. GISD is one of the few that allows the parents to choose the campus they want their child to attend. Each year in January parents make the decision for the next school year selecting a few different schools in case one is filled. 98% of students will end up attending the first choice of school that their parents selected.
The district has 47 elementary schools, seven high schools, and several specialty schools including an agricultural farm.
