In 1893, Coppell had only four stores: a lumber yard, blacksmith shop, cotton gin, and a school. Now it has more than 500 businesses. The city is bordered by SH-121 on the north and west and loop 635 on the south.
The Coppell Community Garden, a nonprofit organization, provides community gardens, a farmers market, and environmental education. Volunteers grow and donate organic produce to those in need and teach sustainable practices. Food grown in the Community Garden is made available at the Coppell Farmers Market, which fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, farmstead cheeses, breads, yogurt, honey, herbs, pasta and flowers. For carnivores, there's also grass-fed beef, free-range chicken, and fresh seafood from the Gulf.
The Coppell Aquatic and Recreation Center has five pools for public use: three outdoor pools consisting of a competition pool, play pool, and children's pool; the indoor pool includes a lap pool and a child's play pool. The outdoor pools are open Memorial Day through Labor Day the indoor pools are open year round.
Coppell has an extensive trail system which borders Denton Creek on the north side of town. It circles the tennis center, the aquatic center, and several parks.
There are nine apartment communities in Coppell totaling 2,831 units. These represent 26 percent of all housing available.
