In 1893, Coppell had only four stores: a lumber yard, blacksmith shop, cotton gin, and a school. Now it has more than 500 businesses. The city is bordered by SH-121 on the north and west and loop 635 on the south.
The Coppell Community Garden, a nonprofit organization, provides community gardens, a farmers market, and environmental education. Volunteers grow and donate organic produce to those in need and teach sustainable practices. Food grown in the Community Garden is made available at the Coppell Farmers Market, which fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, farmstead cheeses, breads, yogurt, honey, herbs, pasta and flowers.
