It began life as a settlement that was part of Stephen F. Austin's Mexican land grant, but by 1880 had become a town built around the quickly developing railroad system.

Today, Rosenberg is located off U.S. Highways 36 and 59, approximately 28 miles southwest of downtown Houston. While it is a small town, it hosts big name employers such as AT&T, CenterPoint Energy, Frito Lay, and Royalty Metal Finishing, which provide some of the largest employment opportunities within the city.

Residents looking for shopping opportunities can find old treasures and bargains in many of the antique shops that line the streets of historic downtown. The district is also home to Another Time Soda Fountain, a restaurant that transports patrons back in time with its authentic old soda fountain decor. Visitors can have drinks made by Soda Jerks, try a handspun shake, or taste some of the classic American fare the menu has to offer.

Nearby is the Rosenberg Railroad Museum, a site that opened in 2002 to honor the city's rail history. It is home to many artifacts, maps, photographs, memorabilia, and rail cars that celebrate the Great Rails.
