Every city in Texas has something unique about the call their own but few towns are considered to be as full of pride as Sweeny Texas. Sweeny is a small city just over 60 miles outside of Houston that calls itself ""A city with pride""; Sweeny has a rich history and plenty of unique things that other cities are missing so for many people Sweeny is simply a great place to live. Perhaps one of the most popular things about Sweeny is that it is well situated between both the Gulf of Mexico and downtown Houston so there are always plenty of nearby activities to take part in.
Just like many cities in Texas Sweeny owes much of its success to the railroad that expanded quickly through Texas. Sweeny was originally settled in the mid 1800s but very few people moved to the area other than those who wanted to expand westward. Fortunately in the very early 1900s the railroad expanded into the area near Sweeny which brought plenty of business as well as hundreds of new residents. As with many cities the railroad brought people to the city consistently and as the railroad moved further and further west more people began passing through the city and consequently more people began to settle in Sweeny as well.
Currently Sweeny boasts a small population of just about 4000 people which is quite respectable for a town of that size. Sweeny is only about 2 square miles which explains why there are so few residents. In nearby unincorporated areas that are still considered part of Sweeny there are another few thousand residents as well so the city is substantially larger than many seem to think. Thanks to the wide availability of unincorporated land Sweeny also has a decent selection of housing and home rentals available; many are located within the city limits though there are plenty of properties outside of the incorporated city limits as well.
Sweeny Texas is a nice laidback town that offers a variety of amenities and nearby cities without actually being wrapped up in the city. Houston is just over an hour away and the Gulf of Mexico is just a short drive away as well so there are always plenty of jobs and other things to do in the area. Sweeny is a great place to live if you're looking for an out of the way town that is small and has plenty of charm and pride without being near a huge city.
